Council President Young's Weekly Schedule

 

  • Council President Young will spend the week of January 14, 2013, in Los Angeles participating in The Empowerment Congress Leadership Institute (ECLI). The institute utilizes the dynamic model of civic and community engagement pioneered by the Empowerment Congress to provide participants both theoretical and practical strategies to improve community and public policy outcomes. The Empowerment Congress’ distinctive and deliberate model of civic engagement is built on the core principles of participatory democracy, reciprocal accountability, and intentional civility. The ECLI will bring together diverse teams from throughout the country comprised of elected, civic, and business leaders, as well as other community stakeholders.
  • All expenses associated with the conference (airfare, lodging, meals, etc.) are being paid for through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which is serving as the fiscal sponsor for the Empowerment Congress Leadership Institute.

Council President Young will participate in a bus tour of the 2nd Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County hosted by the Office of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. Council President Young will also participate in workshops on Community Development; Assessing, Utilizing, and Expanding Our Resources.

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Council President Young will participate in a workshop on Public Policy Case Study and Sustainability.
University of Southern California, Davidson Conference Center
1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Council President Young will join seven diverse teams from throughout the country to make presentations on various issues impacting them locally. The presentations will detail what these various teams, which are comprised of elected, civic and business leaders, are doing to solve the issues.
