On the field, Ray is a true legend who has proved again and again that he is a champion in every sense of the word. But Ray's most incredible contributions have come through his work with local youth and charitable organizations – he is an icon in the minds of so many Baltimore children and families who have received Christmas gifts, Thanksgiving meals, and school supplies thanks to Ray's enormous heart. 
While it's sad to see my dear friend step away from the game he loves, I know Ray will continue to forge his legacy as a man of honor, passion and dedication in his future endeavors. Baltimore City is proud that Ray has called it home for so many years, and we thank him for being such a wonderful person and athlete during his legendary career."
