Baltimore City Council to hold oversight hearing for historic Baltimore Children and Youth Fund

On Wednesday, January 23, at 5:00 p.m., the Budget and Appropriations Committee will hold a legislative oversight hearing on the historic Baltimore Children and Youth Fund (BCYF).

The purpose of the hearing is to share an overview and update of the work of the Fund, share key applicant trends from the 2018 grant cycle, and provide tips and information to help prospective applicants prepare for grant opportunities in 2019.

After a months-long process that included community design and capacity building sessions, and a formal proposal review process, Associated Black Charities (ABC), which was formally selected to manage the Fund, administered a first round of grants in August 2018. During the initial round of grants, 84 organizations received $10.8 million in funding.

The effort to establish a Baltimore Children and Youth Fund was launched in 2015 by Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young. It was approved by voters in November 2016 with over 80 percent support. The non-lapsing Fund is supported through an annual set aside of property tax revenue. The City selected Associated Black Charities to administer grants from the Fund one year with the option to extend for one additional year.
