Baltimore City Council President and Orioles Renew Partnership for 7th President’s Cup
BALTIMORE, MD – The City of Baltimore is scheduled to host the 7th President’s Cup all-star high school baseball game on Tuesday, June 5th at 3p.m. at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The all-star game will feature players from Baltimore City Public Schools competing against their peers from the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B and C conferences.
The all-star game, which was created by Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young, allows students from diverse backgrounds greater opportunity to interact with each other and form lasting and meaningful relationships.
“The President’s Cup all-star game presents a wealth of opportunities for Baltimore City athletes,” City Council President Young said. “For these students, playing on the same field as the greats like Cal Ripken, Jr., allows them to share an experience of a lifetime that they can bond over.”
The Baltimore Orioles have been a partner of the President's Cup since its inception and the organization is excited to provide a wonderful oportunity to the local community.
“We’re thrilled to once again host the President’s Cup at Camden Yards, and proud to provide local young athletes with the treasured experience of playing at one of Major League Baseball’s most iconic ballparks,” said Greg Bader, Orioles Vice President, Communications & Marketing.
Major League Baseball’s Commissioner, Robert D. Manfred, Jr., praised Young’s approach to using the game of baseball to build bridges between diverse groups of students.
“The partnership between the Baltimore Orioles and Council President Young through his high school baseball all-star game is helping introduce the game to a new generation of fans,” MLB Commissioner Manfred said. “The President’s Cup allows a diverse group of young men to develop relationships and learn from one another while playing in one of America’s best ballparks. It is a great experience for these student-athletes during an important time in their lives.”
The President’s Cup aims to unite Baltimore’s youth by using baseball to bring together groups of high school students from different backgrounds that normally would not compete with one another. The President’s Cup is an initiative under Council President Youngs ongoing P.L.A.Y. (Productive Lives, Active Youth) campaign. P.L.A.Y. provides Baltimore’s youth with a wide range of opportunities to strengthen their self-confidence, develop leadership skills, learn from positive role models, and be rewarded athletically for their academic achievements. P.L.A.Y. encourages them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
The All-Star game is free and open to the public.
