STATEMENT: City School' Budget Shortfall

Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young: "Make no mistake, today's news is potentially devastating for the children and their families who depend on public schools in Baltimore.

We must come together in order to minimize the pain and disruption to our system. We will need additional support from Governor Hogan and legislators in Annapolis. There are also less painful steps, namely reforming employee healthcare and pension benefits, that the school system could take to help close this gap.

The budget crises facing the school system will require an all-hands-on-deck approach."
