Council President Statement on Passing of U.S. Congressman John Lewis
BALTIMORE, MD (July 18, 2020) — Baltimore City Council President Brandon M. Scott on the passing of U.S. Congressman John Lewis:
"Last night, the world lost a giant. There are no words to describe the great sense of loss I feel following Congressman Lewis’ death. Throughout decades of turmoil and unrest, he has been a leader and a beacon of light for us all.
For over 60 years, Congressman Lewis has made “good trouble,” showing us how to fight our battles with truth, conviction, and love. He was a true hero.
This country is a better place because he forced it to be. Without his sacrifice, I would not be where I am today.
His service to this country is tremendous and not in life, nor in death will we ever be able to thank him enough."
