Council President Scott Announces Football Kick Off Classic

Six High School Football Teams To Face Off In Triple-Header Game This Saturday

BALTIMORE, MD (September 4, 2019) — Baltimore City Council President Brandon M. Scott will host a press conference on Thursday, September 5 at 9:30am outside of City Hall announcing the first ever high school football Kick Off Classic 2019 with coaches and student athletes from six Baltimore City high schools.

“Too often our young people are only talked about in reference to negative things happening in our city. While we know violence impacts our youth, it is also critical that we showcase the positive things they do and provide positive outlets for them,” said Council President Scott. “That’s what the Kick Off Classic does. It brings the city together as we celebrate one of our favorite things in Baltimore — our high schools.”

The First Annual Kick Off Classic 2019, a triple-header football game, will take place Saturday, September 7 at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, 1400 W. Cold Spring Lane. The event commemorates the beginning of the high school football season. Six football teams from across Baltimore City will face off in three separate games:

1PM: Lake Clifton v. Carver
4PM: Patterson v. City College
7PM: Dunbar v. Mervo

“With so much violence afflicting our city, we decided to put together an event that would showcase our student athletes and bring our communities together,” said Coach Lawrence Smith of Dunbar High School. “We are happy for the partnership to shine positive light on our city and promote one Baltimore.”

The Kick Off Classic 2019 is sponsored by Baltimore City Public Schools, the Baltimore City Football Coaches Association, DTLR, and City Council President Brandon Scott.

Food trucks will be on site. Advance tickets for the game can be purchased for $10 at this link.
