City Council President to Introduce a Resolution Highlighting the Potential Negative Impacts Related to President Trump’s Proposed Federal Budget

BALTIMORE, MD – On Monday, July 17th, Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young will introduce a resolution calling on President Trump to reconsider his proposed federal budget as it relates to grant funding for Baltimore City. The resolution will be introduced during the 5pm Council Meeting. Resolution 17-0032R will highlight the potential negative impacts related to President Trump’s proposed Federal Budget.  Baltimore City is slated for roughly $172 million in federal grants for fiscal year 2018.

The $4 trillion federal budget proposal announced by President Trump in May would devastate the City of Baltimore. Our city expects to receive nearly $172 million in federal grants in fiscal year 2018. This includes roughly $22.6 million in support for public safety efforts, $40 million for the Mayor’s Office of Human Services – nearly two-thirds of the budget for a City agency directly tasked with assisting the most vulnerable Baltimoreans – and $73.7 million from the Health Department. State, private, and non-profit partners also expect to make use of millions of dollars in Federal spending in Baltimore over the next year. Any reduction in this funding could greatly harm our city.
