Council President's Statement on Southwest District BPD Officer Testing Positive for COVID-19

BALTIMORE, MD (April 5, 2020) – Baltimore City Council President Brandon M. Scott released a statement in reaction to news this evening that another Baltimore Police Department Officer has tested positive for COVID-19:

“I was deeply troubled to learn this evening that another one of our BPD officers has contracted COVID-19. This has resulted in the entire Southwest District being out until our officers are cleared to return. Commissioner Harrison informed me that the district will be covered with other assets until that point.

Earlier this week, I received calls from community leaders concerned about the well-being of Southwest District officers. I inquired with the Department and was told that there were no issues at that time.

As I've said time and time again, I thank our officers who risk their lives each day so that we can feel safer — even amidst a global pandemic. Furthermore, I am again calling for the Mayor's administration to institute a practice of pre-work-shift temperature testing for all of our frontline employees in city government. We have to protect our public servants at all costs.”
