Council President Young’s statement on State’s Attorney Mosby’s decision to drop charges against the officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray

BALTIMORE, MD –“I respect today’s decision by Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby to drop charges against the three remaining officers charged in the death of Mr. Freddie Gray. I understand State’s Attorney Mosby’s frustrations with the proceedings and parts of the criminal justice system as a whole. While no officers were ultimately convicted, this case has brought about reforms within the Baltimore City Police Department, like an enhanced Civilian Review Board, body worn cameras for officers and a pending civil rights investigation by the Department of Justice. These reforms will forever alter the way our police department interacts with citizens and how individual officers are held accountable. These efforts will bring about much-needed healing in the City of Baltimore.”
