Council President’s Statement on Reports of Price Gouging Across Baltimore City

Council President’s Statement on Reports of Price Gouging Across Baltimore City

BALTIMORE, MD (March 31, 2020) - Baltimore City Council President Brandon Scott released the following statement regarding reports of price gouging across Baltimore City during the COVID-19 public health emergency:

“I am discouraged by the many reports I’ve received from residents across the city of price gouging, including neighborhoods with limited food access. I take price gouging reports seriously. This cannot continue while many of us are having trouble obtaining essential resources and making ends meet during this difficult time.

I ask anyone who believes a store is price gouging in response to the COVID-19 emergency, please:

  1. Photograph the product and price
  2. Provide details (store name, location)
  3. Contact the Attorney General's Office at 410-528-8662, or email consumer@oag.state.md.us

I recognize that everyone is hurting in this time of crisis. I will continue to gather information and explore what can be done to address this problem. We have to ensure that Baltimore residents are protected, and ensure our small businesses can access the resources available to them during this public health emergency."
